Accessing parenting education and counseling programs can be difficult due to language or financial constraints. In 2002, Churchill Park partnered with two child care agencies to create the Family Resource Facilitation Project (FRFP) to provide a support network for children, families and child care centre staff across the city.
FRFP facilitators work closely with caregivers and parents at more than a dozen participating child care centres in Calgary to enhance family functioning, increase child and family resiliency and help improve relationships. Facilitators come to appreciate the broader needs of children, families and staff, and find creative ways to connect families with a range of social services available to them. And they do this in a manner that respects individual privacy and reduces the stigma often associated with asking for help.
The goal of the project is to extend beyond the reach of parental support services and be on-site, in an on-going way, focused on the educational and experiential components of parenting. The Family Resource Facilitation Project provides its services to parents at more than a dozen different child care centres across the city.
