Churchill Park Family Care Society provides healthy meals and snacks for children participating in our programs. We believe that healthy eating and daily physical activity are essential for children’s physical, emotional and intellectual development.
In recent years, our staff began noticing that more children were arriving at our programs hungry, or undernourished. We realize how important it is to offer a quality nutrition program, especially for children from low income families, who do not always start their day with a full stomach.
In 2005, Churchill Park received funding from the Burns Memorial Fund to enhance our food program and implement a nutrition education program for children that included providing nutrition information to parents who may not have access to this kind of information.
Each Churchill Park child care centre employs a full-time cook to prepare dietician-designed and approved meals that are low in sugar and fat. All meals and snacks are peanut-free and sensitive to allergies. Menu substitutions required to accommodate allergies are now replaced with foods of equivalent nutritional value.
