Position: Primary Caregiver [Child Development Worker (Level 2) and Child Development Worker (Level 3) certification]
Front line staff are responsible for caring for children and promoting their healthy development, for building relationships with children’s families, and for developing strong networks with their peers in programs and the broader child care community. Churchill Park offers opportunities for advancement within our organization, movement from one program to another and professional development.
Success Story: Reshma Reddy has been employed with Churchill Park Family Care Society since November 2001. She started at the Pump-Kin Patch Daycare as a Level 2 child care worker in a Supported Child Care position. We are pleased to announce that Reshma earned her Level 3 certification in December 2007. She continues to work at the Pump-Kin Patch Daycare, in the infant room. Congratulations Reshma.
Position: Support Professional [Child Development Assistant (Level 1) certification]
Support staff are responsible for caring for children and promoting their healthy development. They assist and support the Primary Caregivers and children in the everyday routines by covering breaks, planning time and absences of Primary staff.
Position: Cook [Child Development Assistant (Level 1) certification]
Churchill Park child care centres each have a full-time, on-site cook who is responsible for providing the children with three nutritious meals a day. We have a 5-week rotating menu and recipe binder for the cooks to follow. They are responsible for the health and cleanliness of their environment. They also provide support to the program by assisting in emergency evacuations and covering at rest time. Cooks must complete the two-day Safe Food Handling course provided by the Calgary Health Region.
Success Story: Staff member Estrella Balallo worked at the Pump-Kin Patch Daycare for over 10 years as a support staffer. In the spring of 2005, an internal posting opened up for a cook at Churchill Park’s Hillhurst/Sunnyside Daycare centre. Esther applied for it and was the successful applicant. She has been cooking and overseeing the nutritional needs of the children at Hillhurst/Sunnyside ever since.
Position: Family Child Care Consultant [Child Development Supervisor (Level 3) certification]
Family Child Care Consultants are responsible for monitoring and supporting approved family child care providers contracted with our agency. They do monthly visits, and provide professional development support and opportunities for the day home operators. Consultants ensure that the standards and the regulations set out by the government and that of accreditation are always being met in all of the day homes. Consultants are also responsible for organizing workshops, creating monthly newsletters and providing lending library resources for the providers in their case loads. Consultants participate in family child care meetings monthly and help the program manager to create new spaces, come up with innovative marketing ideas and contribute to the overall growth of the program. Consultants continue to participate in training and conferences in order to further their knowledge in the unique field of Family Child Care.
Success Story: Staff member Anna Kowalik started with Churchill Park Family Care Society at our Pump-Kin Patch Daycare location with the older infant room. She enjoyed supporting the development of the 13- to 19-month-old children, but when an internal posting came up for a Family Child Care Consultant role, Anna applied for the position. She was the successful applicant and is currently enjoying her new position supporting and monitoring Family Child Care Providers.
Position: Out of School Care Professional [Child Development Worker (Level 3), Child Development Worker (Level 2) and Child Development Assistant (Level 1) certification]
With a variety of School Age sites, Churchill Park offers a wide range of employment opportunities and shifts. The staff on site are responsible for providing quality care for children 5 – 12 years of age, interacting with parents, co-workers, and acting as a community liaison having to interact with teacher, health, fire and other child care partners. We strive to provide a warm, safe, caring environment with open communication with a balance of life skills and play for our children.
Success Story: One staff person started out as an agency float at the Child Development Centre before moving to the Pumpkin Patch Daycare centre. From there she joined the Dalhousie School Age program as a primary caregiver and eventually went on to lead the centre, becoming the person parents, children, colleagues and community partners all highly value. She is dedicated, professional and has initiative to really provide the best care possible to the families in the community.
Position: Program Manager [Child Development Supervisor (Level 3) certification]
Churchill Park Family Care Society Program Managers share the role of Director with the Administration Manager. Together they are responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program. The Program Manager is responsible for the staff, children, families and programming in their centre. Part of the role is to spend time each day in the rooms with the staff and children. They are the lead in achieving and maintaining Accreditation status; they are the liaison with Licensing, Health and Fire officials.
Success Story: Renee Ellsworth is the Program Manager for the Hillhurst/Sunnyside Daycare. Renee began with Churchill Park Family Care Society in our former Child Development Centre in 1998. She has since worked at the Pump-Kin Patch Daycare, and the Mountview and Connaught School Age and Family Centres. Renee responded to and applied to the internal posting for Program Manager; she was the successful candidate and has been the Program Manager since June 2006 at Hillhurst/Sunnyside Daycare.
Success Story: Maritza Pino is the Administration Manager for the Family Child Care Agency and for the three School Age Programs. Maritza started with Churchill Park Family Care Society at our former Child Development Centre in August of 2001. She applied for an internal posting at our Dalhousie school age program in 2003; she was successful and worked at Dalhousie for two years. Maritza then took on an administrative role for the school age program in September 2004. She joined the Family Child Care team in January of 2005 in accounts payable. Maritza took on the role of Administration Manager in September 2007 and we are pleased to have her as part of our management team.
